What We Believe

Vision | Tenants of Faith

We, the congregation of Calvary Full Gospel Church, believe we are called of God for a three-fold purpose:

To worship and glorify God through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

To proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to those who have never heard, here on Vashon Island, and then to the uttermost parts of the earth.

To function together in love and caring as the body of Christ, becoming equipped to do the work of the ministry.

Tenants of Faith

I. The Holy Scriptures:
We believe the Bible is the inspired and only infallible and authoritative Word of God.  (2 Tim 3:16,17)
II. The Godhead:

We believe in the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, three Persons in one, as revealed at the baptism of Jesus when the Father spoke from heaven and the Spirit descended upon the Son in the form of a Dove.  (Matt 3:17)

III. The Deity of Christ:

We believe in the deity of Christ (John 1:1), in His virgin birth (Matt 1:23) and sinless life (I Pet 2:22), His miracles (Acts 2:22), His substitutionary work on the cross (I Cor 15:3), His bodily resurrection from the dead (I Cor 15:3), and His ascension into heaven (Acts 1:9,11).

IV. The Fall of Man:

We believe in the creation, test, and fall of man, as recorded in Genesis, and in man’s total depravity and inability to attain to divine righteousness in his own power  (Rom 15:12).

V. The Salvation of Man:

We believe in the salvation of sinners by grace, through repentance and faith in the perfect and sufficient work of Christ on our behalf upon the cross of Calvary  (Acts 4:12; Eph 2:8; Rom 10:9,10).

VI. Baptism in Water:

We believe in water baptism of believers by immersion as an act of obedience to the command of the Lord  (Matt 18:19)

VII. The Lord’s Supper:

We believe in the Lord’s Supper consisting of the elements, bread and fruit of the vine, which is the symbol expressing our sharing the Divine nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Pet 1:4), a memorial of His suffering and death (I Cor 11:26), and a prophecy of His second coming (Luke 22:19,20; Acts 2:41-47).

VIII. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit:

We believe in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit as a experience subsequent to salvation, with the scriptural evidence of speaking in other tongues. (Matt 3:11; Acts 1:4,5; Acts 2:4,38,39).

IX. Divine Healing:

We believe in the healing of the body by divine power, through the atonement in its many aspects, as practiced by the early church (Isa 53:4-6; Matt 8:17; I Pet 2:24; Jas 5:14).

X. The Church:

We believe the church is the body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit. Each believer, born of the Spirit, is part of the church of the first-born, which are written in heaven (Eph 1:22,23; Eph 2:7; Heb 12:23).

XI. The Ministry:

We believe a divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry has been provided by our Lord for a twofold purpose: one, the evangelization of the world; two, the edifying of the body of Christ (Mark 16:15-20; Eph 4:11-13).

XII. The Second Coming of Christ:

We believe in the personal return of Christ for His church (I Thess 4:16,17) and His millennial reign of 1000 years on earth (Rev 20:6).

XIII. Eternal Punishment:

We believe in the eternal punishment of the unbeliever in the Lake of Fire that burns with fire and brimstone (Matt 25:41-46; Rev 20:14,15).

XIV. Satan:

We believe in the reality and personality of Satan (I Pet 5:8)
